Nautilus Carboniferous: A Unique Carbon Fiber Brooch by Ezra Satok-Wolman

Exploring the Beauty of Nature and Mathematics

The "Nautilus Carboniferous" brooch, designed by Ezra Satok-Wolman, is a stunning piece of wearable art that combines nature, mathematics, and high-tech materials. Inspired by the relationship between nature and mathematics, this brooch showcases the beauty of the golden ratio and the geometries found in the natural world.

The brooch features a pierced "flower of life" plate, representing the mathematical beauty that can be found throughout nature. The nautilus shell, generated using a logarithmic spiral, and the hexagon, a prevalent geometry in nature, are merged in this design to achieve visual and symbolic harmony.

What sets the "Nautilus Carboniferous" brooch apart is its unique construction. It is handcrafted using a carbon fiber/kevlar composite, along with gold, palladium, and a Tahitian pearl. This combination of materials results in an incredibly lightweight and voluminous brooch, showcasing the unique properties of the carbon fiber composite.

The realization of this design involves precise cutting and sanding of the carbon/kevlar sections, drilling for structural elements, and the intricate piercing of the "flower of life" plate using Italian traforo techniques. The components are then carefully assembled, including the addition of a Tahitian pearl and a hand-made clasp in 18k white gold.

The dimensions of the brooch are impressive, with a width of 95.50 mm, depth of 45.50 mm, and height of 81.80 mm. Despite its size and volume, the brooch weighs only 22g, thanks to the lightweight nature of the carbon fiber composite.

The "Nautilus Carboniferous" brooch is designed to be worn on a jacket or sweater and can be customized in several ways, allowing the wearer to make it their own. It is a true testament to the beauty of nature and mathematics, brought to life through innovative design and craftsmanship.

Ezra Satok-Wolman, the designer behind this remarkable piece, is known for his exploration of sacred geometries and his ability to create unique and visually striking jewelry. The "Nautilus Carboniferous" brooch is a testament to his creativity and dedication to pushing the boundaries of design.

This design project started in November 2013 and was completed in January 2014 in Caledon, Ontario. It represents a culmination of research and experimentation with different materials and techniques, resulting in a truly exceptional piece of wearable art.

The "Nautilus Carboniferous" brooch has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design category in 2014. This prestigious award recognizes designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.

Experience the beauty of nature and mathematics with the "Nautilus Carboniferous" brooch, a true masterpiece of design and craftsmanship.
